Life Sketch
Shrimad Rajchandra
1867–1901
Self-realized Jain mystic and poet who composed the Atmasiddhi Shastra at the age of 22. Spiritual mentor to Mahatma Gandhi.
Param Krupaludev Shrimad Rajchandraji is venerated as one of the most luminous spiritual figures of modern Jain dharma. Born in Vavania, Gujarat, he displayed extraordinary memory, philosophical depth, and inner stillness from early childhood.
In 1896, at the age of twenty-two, he composed the Atmasiddhi Shastra — a 142-verse exposition of the path to self-realization — reportedly in a single sitting of about ninety minutes, on the bank of the Vavania river. The work remains a foundational scripture for seekers of Jain self-knowledge.
Through his correspondence and brief meetings, Param Krupaludev guided Mahatma Gandhi during a period of profound spiritual searching. Gandhi later wrote that no one else had made such a deep impression on his life. Param Krupaludev attained samadhi at the age of thirty-three, leaving a corpus of writings, hymns, and letters that continue to nourish devotees today.
